Gallatin County cruises to GEC Tournament title


GALATIA — The Gallatin County Lady Hawks defeated Galatia/Thompsonville 42-25 to capture the Greater Egyptian Conference tournament title.

The Lady Hawks jumped out to an 8-2 lead after one quarter and extended that lead to a dozen by halftime, holding the Lady Bearcats to just six first half points. Both teams improved the offensive output in the second half, but Gallatin County never saw its lead shrink to single digits in the second half.

Makenzie Russell scored 12 points to lead the Lady Hawks with Carly Foster adding 10. Kate Bond led the Lady Bearcats with 12.

Both teams will open regional play next Tuesday night. Gallatin County is the top seed at the Shawnee Regional, while Galatia/Thompsonville will be headed to the Goreville Regional.
