Carterville pulls away from Carmi-White County


JOHNSTON CITY — The Carterville Lions are headed to the Johnston City girls 2A Regional championship game after beating Carmi-White County 56-39.

The Lady Bulldogs closed within four in the third quarter, but the top seeded Lions closed the third with a 14-3 run and never looked back.

Megan Barton led Carterville with 14 points. Alecia Doyle added 13 and Abbey Crain 10. Carmi-White County held SIU signee Jeniah Thompson to only nine points.

Sydney Lucas wrapped up her outstanding career leading the Lady Bulldogs with 16 points. Elleigh Gray added 11.

The Lions will face Benton Friday night at 7:00 for the regional championship. The Rangerettes beat Hamilton County 40-18 in the second semifinals.
