CARBONDALE — Althoff put four in the top eight to win the South 7 boys golf team championship, while Centralia senior Sam Beggs needed an extra hole to claim individual medalist honors.

Beggs and Carbondale sophomore Ian Davis put on quite a battle on the back nine, each. That meant a playoff to decide the winner. The sudden death playoff started and ended on the first hole. Beggs mashed a perfect drive, and after missing a birdie putt for the win, tapped in for par. Davis tried to force another extra hole, but his par putt slid past the hole.

The Crusaders meanwhile used a balanced attack to win the team championship. Max Bruening led the way with a 76 to finish third, a spot ahead of Parker Bruening who shot a 78. Avery Irwin (79) and George Orlet (83) finished fifth and eighth respectively.
