DU QUOIN — According to the original schedule, Friday night was supposed to be senior night against Anna-Jonesboro for the Du Quoin Indians. With football moved to the spring due to the pandemic, the game will have to wait.

Senior night did not.

Prior to a practice under the lights, Du Quoin introduced all of its fall seniors from football, cross country, golf, cheerleading, dance team, and band. The senior parents were the only fans allowed inside Van Metre Field.

While there was no opponent on the field, the Indians divided up into teams that played seven on seven at one end of the field, while the linemen were at the other end competing against each other.

The seniors say not playing now and not being certain they’ll be able to play when the spring rolls around is tough. For now, all they can do is practice and get better so they’ll be ready to go if they do indeed get their shot come spring.

A senior day in April wouldn’t be normal, but then again a practice on a Friday night in October isn’t either.
