CARBONDALE — For many, the past eight months have been a roller coaster. Carbondale senior pitcher Kaitlyn Anders is no exception.

Back in March, she visited Georgia College & State University in Milledgeville, Georgia–a Division II school located nine and a half hours away from Carbondale. Anders received a scholarship offer and committed just days before COVID-19 shut nearly everything down. The pandemic cost Anders and all other spring athletes their seasons.

Fast forward to Friday, and Anders made it official, taking advantage of a bright sunny day to sign her letter of intent on Carbondale’s softball field in front of family and friends.

“It was really special for me and really exciting just having everybody out here to come support me and support my next steps in life,” Anders said. “It makes it a lot better. I’m so ready to put the Terrier jersey back on and finish out what I started out sophomore year and just finish up because I kinda want to go to college with at least three years of high school ball under my belt. It’s gonna be interesting.”

Anders was 13-2 in the circle as a sophomore, helping lead the Terriers to the sectional championship game.

She plans to major in education.
