CARMI — The Eldorado Eagles moved to 2-1 on the season with a hard fought 19-8 win at Carmi-White County.

The Eagles held a 6-0 lead after one, but the Bulldogs got on the board in second on Isaac King’s three-yard touchdown run. King also ran in the two-point conversion giving Carmi-White County an 8-6 lead.

In the final minute of the half, on fourth down, Eldorado’s Aiden Whitlock and Ezra Burtis connected for an 11-yard go ahead touchdown. The ball was actually tipped by a defender, but Burtis made an adjustment while the ball was in the air and hauled it in with one hand. The Eagles led 12-8 at the half.

Both teams put together time consuming drives in the second half, only to come away with no points. The Eagles recovered an onside kick to open the third, then had the ball for nearly five minutes only to be stopped on fourth down deep in Carmi territory.

The Bulldogs then went on an 18-play drive that ate up nearly ten minutes spanning the third and fourth quarters, only to turn the ball over on downs.

Eldorado then sealed it with a six minute drive, but this one ended in the endzone as Parker Price scored from three yards out with a little more than three minutes to play to give the Eagles an 11-point lead.

The Eagles improve to 2-1. They will host another 2-1 squad, CZR, next Saturday. It doesn’t get any easier for the 0-3 Bulldogs, who will visit 3-0 Johnston City Friday night.
