CENTRALIA — In a battle between two of the top three teams in our Volleyball Coaches’ Poll, the second ranked Centralia Annies improved to 8-0, sweeping third ranked Pinckneyville on the road 25-19, 25-23.

Centralia used a 7-1 spurt to take control of the opening game. The Annies led 24-17, but couldn’t close it out immediately. Pinckneyville fought off a pair of game points, before Kalei Edson sealed game one with a perfectly placed dink.

Game two was back and forth throughout, with neither team leading by more than three. Trailing 24-21, Pinckneyville battled through two match points, but could not get the third to tie it. Again, Kalei Edson ended it, this time with a rocket smash.

The Annies have not dropped a game yet this season. The Panthers fall 12-2, with their other loss coming to top ranked Fairfield. In case you’re wondering, Fairfield is scheduled to visit Centralia April 20.
