Former Tiger will be next Herrin head football coach

HERRIN — Herrin High School has turned to one of its own to be its next head football coach.

At Thursday night’s meeting, the school board approved Taylor Perry for the position. He replaces Rod Sherrill, who resigned after one season in his second tenure as the Tigers’ head coach. Herrin finished 3-2 in the pandemic-shortened spring season.

Perry played quarterback and defensive back for the Tigers before playing at McKendree. He served as offensive coordinator last year under Sherrill.
