ANNA — The Anna-Jonesboro Wildcats used the home course to their advantage, winning the A-J Boys 1A Golf Regional by six strokes over Steeleville. West Frankfort will also advance as a team to Monday’s Hamilton County Sectional, which will be held at Green Hills in Mt. Vernon.

Steeleville’s Avery Hamilton prevented an A-J sweep, when he beat Luke Lasley in a sudden death playoff to earn the medalist honors. Lasley had rattled in a birdie putt on 18 to force the playoff, as both golfers finished with 78s. Goreville’s AJ Johnson nearly added his name to the list as well, but his birdie putt on his finishing hole of 9 just slid by the hole.

Hamilton and Lasley parred the first extra holes. Lasley bogeyed the third, and Hamilton’s two-putt par was good enough for the win.

In addition to the three teams, ten individuals also advance to Monday’s sectional: Johnson, Brock Naile (Trico), Chance Mott (Chester), Dawson Hill (Vienna), Tyler Votava (Vienna), Gage Hasemeyer (Chester), Clayton Andrews (Chester), Garrett Franklin (Trico), Canon Weatherly (Eldorado), and Cole Roberson (NCOE).
