Area boys bowlers advance to the sectional

CARTERVILLE — Carbondale hosted a 12-team boys bowling regional Saturday at SI Bowl. The top four teams and top ten individuals not on those four teams all advance to next Saturday’s Alton Sectional.

The Waterloo Bulldogs rallied in the sixth and final game to edge Carterville by 30 pins to win the team title with 6005 pins. Waterloo’s Logan DeFosset won the individual championship with 1342 pins, 55 better than teammate Brady Stumpf.

Carterville’s Evan Flath (1263) and David Lutchka (1253) finished third and fourth individually.

Herrin and Mt. Vernon will also advance to the sectional as teams along with these individuals: Harrisburg’s Evan McDermott, Noah Arnold, and Matt Watson, Woodlawn’s Heath Ellis, Carbondale’s Conner Bennett, A-J’s Harrison Ford, Massac County’s Cal Ginger, Sparta’s Cody Martin, Marion’s William Gott, and Eldorado’s Owen Butler.

Salem cruised to the team title at the Danville Regional. The Wildcats finished with 6259 pins, 664 pins more than second place Jerseyville. Wildcats’ junior Colton Shoemaker won the individual championship with 1351 pins, which was nine pins better than teammate Charlie Hunter.

Centralia and Taylorville as well as Christ Our Rock Lutheran teammates Rhett Runge and Jensen Boatright will also advance to the Alton Sectional.
