Orthopaedic Center of Southern Illinois Player of the Week nominees

Voting is now open and will run through noon Friday for this week’s Orthopaedic Center of Southern Illinois Player of the Week. The poll is on the upper right-hand side of the page.

Here are your nominees:

Ahry Comer, Pope County: The sophomore won the 800 (2:22.15), 1600 (5:22.84), and the 3200 (11:29.34) at the Benton Spring Fling. Comer set a new meet record with her time in the 800.

Sarah Cook, Murphysboro: The sophomore was 10-14 with 14 RBIs, 9 runs scored, and 7 stolen bases.

Chris Nelson, Herrin: The freshman won the 100 (10.9), 200 (23.1), ran a leg in the 4×100 winning relay, and finished 2nd in the long jump (19-5) at the Benton Spring Fling.

Jackson Pittman, Harrisburg: The senior allowed 0 earned runs on 1 hit while striking out 10 over 5.1 innings and had the game winning RBI in an extra innings win over Anna-Jonesboro.

Jillian Shaneyfelt, Pinckneyville: The junior scored 9 goals and added 2 assists in 3 games for the Lady Panthers.

Mason Tieffel, Benton: The sophomore pitched a 5-inning no-hitter striking out 7 in a win over Eldorado and scored the game winning run earlier in the week at Mt. Vernon.

Olivia Tipton, Waltonville/S-V: The sophomore was 10-16 at the plate with 2 doubles, 4 home runs, 9 RBIs, and 10 runs scored. She also picked up 2 wins while striking out 21 batters in the circle.
