Orthopaedic Center of Southern Illinois Player of the Week nominees

Voting is now open and will run through midnight Thursday for this week’s Orthopaedic Center of Southern Illinois Player of the Week. The poll is on the upper right-hand side of the page.

Here are the nominees:

Hudson Chapman/Carson Harris, Carterville: The juniors won the Kinkaid Lake Bass Fishing Sectional championship. Chapman and Harris hauled in a 5-fish limit that weighed in at 16 pounds 5 ounces, including the day’s big bass that weighed more than 5 pounds.

Jacie Dees, Mt. Vernon: The senior was 2-0 in the circle, allowing 1 run on 1 hit in 11 innings of work while striking out 22, including 18 in a win against Goreville. Dees was also 7-10 at the plate with 5 RBIs and 2 runs scored in 3 games.

Brodie Denny, Anna-Jonesboro: The junior won the 800 (2:21.58) and set a new school record while winning the 1600 (5:20.12) at the Salem 2A Girls Track and Field Sectional.

Mo Hance, Clay City/North Clay: The sophomore allowed 2 earned runs over 15 innings while striking out 29. Hance was 5-8 at the plate with a triple, 4 stolen bases and an RBI.

Gehrig Jones, Mt. Carmel: The senior was 8-11 with a double, 2 stolen bases, an RBI and a run scored in 3 games. Jones also threw a complete game, allowing 3 runs while striking out 9 to pick up the win on the mound against Robinson.

Chris Nelson, Herrin: The freshman won the 100 (10.84), 200 (22.03), high jump (6-4), and long jump (21-5) helping the Tigers win the SIRR Ohio championship.

Halle Rueter, Nashville: The senior won the 100 (12.96), 200 (26.5), and ran legs in the victorious 4×100 and 4×200 relays helping the Hornettes win the Nashville 1A Girls Track and Field Sectional championship.

Isaac Stanford, Flora: The senior won the 800 (2:14.42), 1600 (4:45.90), and 3200 (11:24.41) at the Black Diamond Conference meet.

Madyson Swope, Carbondale: The junior won the shot put (12.46m) and discus (40.22m) at the Salem 2A Girls Track and Field Sectional.

Jalynn Wood, Du Quoin: The senior won the pole vault (3.19m), 100 hurdles (16.40), and 300 hurdles (49.41) helping the Lady Indians win the Du Quoin 1A Girls Track and Field Sectional championship.
