MASCOUTAH – It was a tale of two halves Friday night in a matchup of 2-0 teams at Mascoutah. Centralia built a 28-7 halftime lead only to watch the Indians rattle off 30 unanswered points in the second half to win 37-28.

The Orphans got off to a great start. Centralia quarterback Carson Green got the scoring started with a 1-yard touchdown run at the 4:24 mark of the first.

After the Orphans’ defense held Mascoutah, Green connected with Amir Johnson for a 79-yard touchdown pass. Centralia led 14-0 after one quarter.

In the second quarter, Carson ran one in a second TD from a yard out to make it 21-0 with 8:37 left in the half. Mascoutah’s Allen Middleton returned the ensuing kickoff 99 yards for a score to get the Indians on the board.

The Orphans answered, as Johnson scored on a 12-yard run. Centralia led 28-7 at the half.

The second half was all Mascoutah. Indians quarterback Zane Timon ran for three touchdowns and threw a fourth, as Mascoutah outscored the Orphans 30-0 in the half to win by nine points. Timon finished with 190 yards rushing on the night.

Injuries, especially on the line, added to the Orphans’ woes in the second half. Division I recruit JehChys Brown missed the second half as did fellow lineman Kyle Stinde.

Green finished with 272 yards passing with a touchdown and two interceptions. He added 72 yards rushing on 16 attempts.
Johnson racked up 211 yards of offense and scored twice.

Centralia (2-1) will start South 7 play next Friday at Carbondale. Mascoutah (3-0) will open Mississippi Valley Conference play at Waterloo next week.
