A-J, Pinckneyville win regional championships

CARTERVILLE — The favorites took care of business at the Carterville 1A Cross Country Regional Saturday.

On the girls side, Anna-Jonesboro won the team title, with Murphysboro’s Miah Gilmore taking home medalist honors.

On the boys side, Pinckneyville won the team title, led by medalist winner Isaac Teel.

Carterville’s Molly Robertson, Okawville’s Caroline Tepe, A-J’s Brodie Denny, and Carterville’s Dani Williamson also earned top five finishes for the girls. Okawville’s Grant Schleifer, Pinckneyville teammates Landen Boman and Landen Carter along with Steeleville’s Cayton Cratch joined Teel in the boys top five.

A total of seven girls teams and seven boys teams advance to the Benton Sectional. Girls teams advancing were Anna-Jonesboro, Carterville, Pinckneyville, Du Quoin, Okawville, Sparta, and Murphysboro. Boys teams advancing were Pinckneyville, Anna-Jonesboro, Carterville, Okawville, Murphysboro, Steeleville, and Marissa.
