VERGENNES — After leading for the majority of the game, the Goreville Lady Blackcats found themselves trailing by a run as they came to bat in the top of the seventh inning. That’s when ninth place hitter Ahnalynn Hayes stepped in and launched a solo home run to right field to tie the game at 2-2 and force extra innings.

Goreville then regained the lead an inning later on a bases loaded wild pitch. The Lady Blackcats didn’t wrap up the victory until Addison Harris tracked down Annabelle Long’s bid for a game-tying extra basehit.

Reese Ray got the win for Goreville, going all eight innings. Ray also had a two-out RBI single in the first to get the scoring started.

WSV briefly held the lead on Hannah Utlaut’s 2-run basehit in the bottom of the sixth, but Hayes came through for Goreville in the seventh.

The Lady Blackcats will now take on Trico Friday afternoon at 4:30 for the sectional championship and a date in the Johnston City Supersectional.
