Two Mt. Vernon sophomores delivered big performances on the road and they share this week’s Josh Finley Country Financial/WMIX Sports Ram of the Week honors.

Luke Stanford and Brodie Phillips each scored two goals as the Rams rolled to a 5-1 victory over Vienna/Goreville on Saturday, September 19.

Phillips has emerged as one of Mt. Vernon’s leading offensive threats this season. The sophomore is second on the team with six goals and is tied for second with two assists. His 14 points rank second on the Rams, while his 17 shots on goal lead the team.

Stanford has also been a key part of the Rams’ attack. He ranks third on the team with four goals and has added two assists, giving him 10 points on the season. His 14 shots on goal are also third-most on the team.

Both sophomores have shown versatility for Mt. Vernon this season. Phillips is listed by MaxPreps at midfield, forward and striker, while Stanford is listed at midfield, forward and sweeper.

Their four combined goals helped Mt. Vernon pick up its third victory of the season and earn Stanford and Phillips this week’s Josh Finley Country Financial/WMIX Sports Ram of the Week honors.

The Rams entered Thursday’s road match at Effingham with a 3-9-1 record.
