CENTRALIA — The Centralia Orphans pitched a shutout in the second quarter on the way to a 51-36 win over Mt. Vernon in a South Seven battle Friday.
The Rams led 10-7 after one quarter, but the Orphans outscored Mt. Vernon 13-0 in the second to take a 20-10 lead at the half.
Mt. Vernon cut it to seven early in the third quarter, but the Orphans pulled away from there. Preston Johannes scored eight straight as Centralia pushed the lead back to double figures and cruised from there.
The Orphans remain unbeaten at 7-0, 2-0 in conference play. The Rams fall to 3-3, 0-2 in the conference.
