Orr outlasts Pinckneyville at Edwardsville Shootout

EDWARDSVILLE — When the top two ranked teams in the state meet, you’d expect a good game. Chicago Orr and Pinckneyville went above and beyond at the Edwardsville Shootout Saturday, with the Spartans downing the Panthers 71-67 in double overtime.

Orr, the three-time defending state champions, came in ranked number one in 2A. Pinckneyville was second. The Panthers had the Spartans on the ropes in the second half, leading by as many as nine.

Orr stormed back in the fourth quarter to tie it. The Panthers had a chance to win it at the end of regulation, but Dawson Yates’ drive rolled off the rim, and Dre Scott’s tip in attempt wouldn’t fall either.

One extra period wasn’t enough to decide a winner. After Pinckneyville took the lead in the second OT, Orr rattled off six straight points and then hung on for the win.

Scott led all scorers with 25. Yates added 21. Shaun Harris led Orr with 18. Bryce Hall added 16 and Leontae Lilly 15.
