IHSA rescinds district play for football

Last December, IHSA member schools narrowly passed a proposal to radically change the football structure from conference-based to district play in 2021. This December, the member schools passed with a 60 percent approval, an amendment to rescind the district scheduling system.

As a result, the current football system will remain intact. Just as the reaction was mixed to passing of districts, it was mixed toward the results to rescind.

Travel appeared to be the biggest downfall for district play, although travel is the very reason schools such as Marion were for the new set up.
