Terriers take home tourney title


CARBONDALE — The Carbondale Terriers are the champions of the 56th Paul Bates Memorial Carbondale Holiday Tournament after beating St. Mary’s out of St. Louis 62-28 in the title game.

The Terriers jumped out to a 20-1 lead after one quarter and extended that lead to 39-8 by halftime before cruising to victory.

The Dragons are coached by former SIU Saluki guard Bryan Turner. Turner’s club was playing without leading scorer Safora Rasas who was sick.

Tavaris Macklin led Carbondale with 18 points. Davaris Macklin added 15 points and 10 rebounds. Clayton Greer chipped in 10.

Davaris Macklin was named tourney MVP.
