Carbondale, Benton earn multiple titles at Murdale Tournament


CARBONDALE — The host Carbondale Terriers won three individual titles, and the Benton Rangers won two at the 59th Murdale Wrestling Tournament.

Aron Taylor (152), Nathaniel Pimentel (160), and Luke Daly (170) all won for the Terriers. Daly was named the tournament’s outstanding wrestler.

Carbondale’s Luke Daly won the 170 pound weight class and was named the tournament’s outstanding wrestler.

Peyton Swigonski (132) and Gabe Craig (285) both won their weight classes for Benton.
Benton’s Gabe Craig won the 285 weight class.

Three Marion wrestlers–Gaige Owens (126), Nate Dampier (138), and River Flute (182)–all finished second in their weight classes.

Goreville’s Memphis Lapatas (106) and Harrisburg’s Tucker Bryant (220) also had second place finishes.

Glenwood took home the team title with 198.5 points. Mascoutah (186.5), Carbondale (143.5), Benton (133.0), and Marion (121.5) rounded out the top five.
