Goreville picks up key road win at SVW


SESSER — The logjam atop the Black Diamond-West girls basketball standings got even tighter Wednesday night as Goreville won at Sesser-Valier/Waltonville 70-52.

The Lady Blackcats’ win leaves four teams with two losses in the conference standings–SVW, Goreville, Vienna, and Chester.

The Lady Devils led 30-25 at the half, but Goreville used a 12-2 run midway through the third to take the lead and never looked back. The Lady Blackcats outscored SVW 45-22 in the second half.

Sam Licka led all scorers with 22. Payton Soczak added 18, and Kelsay Ray scored all 13 of her points in the second half to lead the Goreville attack. Jaice McCowen and Peyton Wilderman tallied 14 points apiece to lead SVW. Ella Zahm added 13.
