Indoor softball tournament raises money for Special Olympics

DU QUOIN — For two of the next three weekends, the Southern Illinois Center in Du Quoin will be the home for indoor softball and baseball tournaments that benefit Special Olympics.

Special Olympics Illinois, Region K and Indoor Softball Inc. will host the 11th Annual Girls Indoor Winter Fast Pitch Softball Tournament starting Friday night and running through Sunday. 24 teams will compete in three age divisions–12U, 14U, and 16U.

In two weeks, the Southern Illinois Center will host the Beaver Rice Memorial Winter Indoor Classic baseball tournament featuring 10U, 11U, and 12U teams competing.

All money raised from this tournament will benefit the more than 1,600 Special Olympics Athletes competing in Region K. The combination of the softball and baseball tournaments have raised more than $550,000 in the past 10 years for Special Olympics Illinois.
