Herrin wins another boys bowling regional championship

HERRIN — Marion was the official host of the boys bowling regional being held at Herrin Bowl Saturday, but the Herrin Tigers felt right at home.

The Tigers shook off a slow start to win their fifth regional in the last seven years, beating Anna-Jonesboro by 317 pins.

Harrisburg and Steeleville finished third and fourth, as the top four teams will advance to next week’s Collinsville Sectional.

Steeleville’s Nick Craig took home the individual title, averaging 220 for the day. Herrin put three in the top ten–Ethan Zoller (2nd), Jayden Vorhes (5th), and Tyler Dunfee (7th). Only three pins separated third through fifth with Anna-Jonesboro’s Aden Hopkins finishing third and Harrisburg’s Sebastian Barton taking fourth.

Ten individuals not on the top four teams also will advance to Collinsville next Saturday. Johnston City’s Nick Edwards, Massac County’s Justin Mitchell and Dalton Holt, Carbondale’s Conner Bennett and William New, Trico’s Ben DeShazo and Tim Bryant, Eldorado’s Everett Bradley and Braden Unthank, and Carterville’s Mikey Null all earned spots in the sectional.
