Pilots use big second half to cruise past Egyptian

CAIRO — The Cairo Pilots broke open a close game late in the third quarter and then pulled away in the fourth to beat Egyptian 88-71 Tuesday night.

The Pilots took a 41-40 lead into halftime after back to back three-pointers from Isaiah Brown including a buzzer-beater that capped a wild 50-second sequence that saw the teams combine for 15 points on five three-pointers.

Cairo used a 10-2 run early in the third to build a 53-45 lead, but the Pharaohs battled back to trim that deficit to 55-52.

The Pilots promptly closed the third by scoring ten of the next 13 points to lead 65-55 heading to the fourth. The run continued with the first two baskets in the fourth, and Egyptian never got closer than 11 the rest of the way.

Terrell Jones led five Pilots in double figures with 20 points. Brown added 19, Alton Hervey and Dequavius Williams 16 apiece, and Daurice Morris 14.

Egyptian’s Tyrone Huff led all scorers with 26. Christian Trexler added 21 and Devion Blake 14.

The Pilots will be home again Friday when they will host Caruthersville (MO) for a girls and boys doubleheader. The Pharaohs will travel to Farmington, Missouri Friday to take on St. Paul Lutheran.
