Terriers pick up critical road win


MARION — The Carbondale Terriers won at Marion 57-51 Friday night to remain in a tie for the top spot in the South 7.

Davaris Macklin scored 14 of his 18 in the second half, including back to back three-pointers in the final minute of the third quarter, giving the Terriers a 40-31 lead.

Marion’s Jackson Connor led all scorers with 28. Connor and the Wildcats were able to get back within one with 1:30 to play, but Clayton Greer answered with a three at the other end to put Carbondale back up four.

Carbondale, Marion, and Mt. Vernon started the night in a three-way tie for first place. The Terriers’ win coupled with the Rams’ win at Althoff leaves Carbondale and Mt. Vernon tied for first, with Marion and Centralia both a game back.
