WAYNE CITY — The Okawville Lady Rockets built a 16-point halftime lead and cruised to a 46-28 win over Gallatin County in the first semifinal at the Wayne City 1A Sectional Monday night.
The Lady Rockets led 14-7 after one quarter. The Lady Hawks scored the first basket of the second quarter, but only managed one free throw the rest of the quarter. Okawville closed the half on a 12-1 run to build a 26-10 halftime lead.
Gallatin County could not get closer than 14 the rest of the way. The Lady Rockets put it away with a 7-0 spurt late in the third to extend their lead to 21.
Sydney Tebbe led Okawville with 16 points. Megan Rennegarbe added ten. Audrey Jackson led Gallatin County with eight points, all coming from the free throw line.
Okawville will now face either Marissa/Coulterville or Goreville Thursday night in the sectional championship. Those two teams will meet in the other semifinal Tuesday night.
Gallatin County’s season ends at 21-11.
