CHAMPAIGN — Six wrestlers from the region won their first round matches at the State Tournament in Champaign, but only advanced to the semifinals.

Mt. Carmel’s Nate Critchfield (170) won his 1A quarterfinal 12-5 over Deer Creek-Mackinaw’s Kyle Huff, and Carbondale’s Luke Daly (170) won his 2A quarterfinal 1-0 over Lake Forest’s Chase Waggoner. Critchfield and Daly will wrestle Friday night for spots in the championship.

Mt. Carmel’s Dayton Hall (132), West Frankfort’s Connor Eaton (170), and Benton’s Gabe Craig in 1A as well as Carbondale’s Aron Taylor (152) in 2A will compete in the wrestlebacks starting Friday afternoon.
