MT. VERNON — The Glenwood Titans used a huge third quarter and then held off Carbondale 45-39 at the Mt. Vernon 3A Sectional Wednesday night. Glenwood advances to Friday night’s championship game against defending state champion East St. Louis.
The Terriers led 19-14 at the half, but the Titans opened the third quarter with a 19-2 run to grab a 33-21 lead. Carbondale made a bit of a run late in the quarter, but Glenwood outscored the Terriers 21-7 to carry a 35-26 advantage to the fourth.
Carbondale cut the margin to three points twice in the fourth but could get no closer, as Glenwood hung on for the six-point win.
Titans’ senior Luke Lehnen led all scorers with 18 points. Tyler Burris added 13. Davaris Macklin and James Baltz scored 11 apiece to lead the Terriers, who finished 23-8 on the season.
