Long and winding recruiting road for Marion’s Jackson Connor

MARION — Like many these days, Jackson Connor finds himself using Zoom and other video conferencing apps quite frequently.

The Marion senior never thought video conferencing would play a key part in his recruiting process.

With the NCAA extending the recruiting dead period through the end of May due to the COVID-19 pandemic, Connor is currently unable to take campus visits as he tries to make his college decision.

Connor currently holds four Division I offers (Austin Peay, Eastern Illinois, SIUe, and Idaho) after a fantastic senior season that saw him average 23.5 points and 5.8 rebounds per game. He finished with 2018 career points, passing Greg Starrick to become Marion’s all-time leading scorer. Connor’s postseason accolades include multiple second team 3A All-State selections as well as finishing tied for 10th in the Illinois Mr. Basketball balloting.

Jackson sat down with Darren Kinnard (also via Zoom) to discuss recruiting, how this new normal has affected his decision making process, as well as looking back at his record breaking career for the Wildcats.
