PINCKNEYVILLE — Despite many expected complications late in the recruiting process, Pinckneyville standout Dawson Yates has committed to Kyle Smithpeters and the John A. Logan Volunteers.
Yates earned multiple 2A All-State selections after averaging 15.9 points, 4.6 assists, 2.5 rebounds, and 1.9 assists this past season for the Panthers, who finished 28-4. In his four seasons at Pinckneyville, the Panthers were 114-18 with four regional titles and fourth place finish at state.
Yates had multiple recruiting visits canceled due to the pandemic. He sat down (via Zoom) with our Darren Kinnard to talk about his decision and the unexpected path he had to take to get there.
