GOREVILLE — The Goreville Blackcats used a huge second inning and cruised to a 17-1 win in four innings over Meridian in their fall baseball opener.

The Blackcats jumped out to a 3-0 lead after one. The Bobcats got one of those runs back in the top of the second, but Goreville exploded for 13 runs in the bottom of the second on their way to the short-game win.

The Blackcats, who are playing in the fall for the first time in more than a decade, will host Woodlawn for a doubleheader Saturday.
