WEST FRANKFORT — West Frankfort senior Tyson Elko said after winning regional medalist honors last week that it was the first tournament he’d won. Elko wrapped up his high school career with back to back tournament wins, adding sectional medalist to his resume.

Elko carded a 2-under 69 to hold off Anna-Jonesboro’s Luke Lasley at the ZRC 1A Sectional at Franklin County Country Club. Elko used the home course to full advantage as his regional win came there as well. Home course or not, it’s still an impressive couple of weeks.

Carmi-White County senior Ty Barbre wrapped up his career with a 74 and a tie for third place. Another senior, Chester’s Jarrett James went out with a top five finish. James tied for fifth with a 75. Goreville junior AJ Johnson was the only other area golfer in the top ten. He tied for tenth.

Vandalia won the sectional team title, edging Breese Mater Dei by six shots. Gibault was third. Trico took fourth with West Frankfort and Althoff tying for fifth.
