HERRIN — The top four seeds in both the singles and doubles brackets advanced through day one of the Herrin 1A Girls Tennis Sectional.

Those top four seeds will battle in the semis starting at 10:00 Saturday morning with the finals to follow. In singles, top seeded Margaux Bruce (Marion) will face Jaylan Blake (Herrin), and Taylor Moore (Benton) will face Skylar Moore (Carbondale). The doubles semis will feature top seeded Kelby Weber and Bre Nesler (Herrin) against Shreya Patel and Jessie Harper (Carbondale), as well as Madison Kreiner and Adriana Tonn (Benton) facing Jasmine Smith and Hannah Lueke (Carmi-White County).

Normally, those individuals and doubles teams punch their ticket to the state tournament by advancing to the semifinals, but not this year. With the postseason shortened and no state finals due to the pandemic, Saturday will be the final day of the girls tennis season.
