CARTERVILLE — A nearly perfect performance from the free throw line kept Nashville perfect on the season. The Hornettes finished 18-20 from the line to go to 5-0, beating Carterville on the road 42-38.

Alyssa Cole did much of the damage for Nashville. The talented junior was 14-16 from the line on the way to a game high 23 points.

While the Hornettes seemingly couldn’t miss a free throw, Carterville struggled. The Lions made only two of their eight free throw attempts on the night.

Still Carterville had chances down the stretch. After pulling within one, the Lions had a chance to take the lead in the final 20 seconds but a turnover thwarted that. Then after getting a rare miss from Cole, the Lions had a chance to tie, but Alecia Doyle could not finish at the rim amongst three Hornettes.

Cole then sealed it with two free throws with five seconds remaining.

Freshman Amayah Doyle led the Lions with 14.

With the win, Nashville improves to 5-0. Carterville falls to 5-1.
