CARBONDALE — Centralia freshman Kalei Edson blocked 11 shots to help lead the Annies to a 34-29 South 7 win at Carbondale Thursday night.

Sophomore Julyiah Rudder-Williams contributed to Centralia’s stifling defense by turning a pair of steals into layups at the end of both the second and third quarters. Rudder-Williams led Centralia with 12 points on the night.

This was a game of runs. Centralia led 7-2 after one and held a six point lead early in the second quarter when Carbondale scored nine straight points to take a 13-10 lead.

The Annies scored the final three of the half and then tallied the first six of the third quarter to regain the lead. Rudder-Williams’ steal and layup put Centralia up 25-18 heading to the fourth.

The Terriers then scored eight straight points in the opening 1:45 of the fourth quarter to regain the lead. Jessie Harper buried a pair of three-pointers during the spurt, with the second putting Carbondale up 26-25.

Centralia ratcheted up the defense, allowing just four points during the final six minutes, with three of those coming in the final seconds.

The Annies improve to 4-2 and will host Marion Saturday. The Terriers fall to 0-5 and will travel to Mt. Vernon Saturday.
