HERRIN — The Herrin Tigers may not quite be in the driver’s seat yet in the SIRR Ohio volleyball race, but the Tigers have the door open and one foot inside after a tough win in three games over Massac County.

The Tigers unbeaten in conference play, and now own a season sweep of the Lady Patriots.

This one had some similarities to the first meeting in Metropolis, namely the Lady Patriots won the opening game. Massac County won game one 25-23, but Herrin dominated the second game, cruising 25-14.

The Tigers looked as if they might run away with game three as well, building a 16-9 lead. The Lady Patriots responded by scoring 12 of the next 17 points to tie the game at 21.

A couple of Massac County mistakes allowed Herrin to regain the lead, and then Presli Karnes finished it off with the kill on match point as the Tigers took the third 25-23.

With the win, Herrin improves to 5-1 (4-0). Massac County falls to 6-2 (2-2).
