MT. VERNON — Carbondale junior Nate Torres scored two goals and assisted on two others to help lead the Terriers to a 5-0 win at Mt. Vernon Wednesday in South 7 play.

Torres set up Louis Van Mulyder for the game’s first goal, then scored on a header off a cross from Eli Guyton as Carbondale led 2-0 at the half.

The Terriers spent most of the second half on Mt. Vernon’s side of the field, but freshman goal keeper Marquis Jones made several saves to keep the Rams in it.

Midway through the second half, after a Torres touch, Khalil Oues blasted one past Jones, giving Carbondale a 3-0 lead. Torres converted a turnover into a goal, and Luca DiMaggio closed out the scoring with an unassisted goal late.

With the win, the Terriers improve to 3-0, 2-0 in the South 7. Mt. Vernon drops to 2-4, 1-4 in the conference.
