FAIRFIELD — The Fairfield Mules extended their Black Diamond Conference winning streak to 33 games with a 58-8 win over Edwards County Saturday, in a game that was postponed from Friday night due to the weather. The Mules’ conference winning streak dates back to Week 7 of 2016.

Number 33 did not come as easily for the Mules as the final score would indicate. After Fairfield jumped out to a 14-0 lead, Edwards County answered with a Kade St. Ledger to Alex Calverley 23-yard touchdown. The score was set up by a 75-yard connection from St. Ledger and Calverley a few plays earlier. Ryan St. Ledger ran in the two-point conversion to cut Fairfield’s lead to 14-8.

Blake Pruitt’s 46-yard touchdown run and subsequent two-point conversion gave the Mules a 22-8 lead after one. Both teams missed opportunities in the second quarter, including the final possession of the half, that saw the Lions get inside the Fairfield five before it sputtered and ended with a sack on the final play of the half, keeping the score 22-8.

Landon Zurliene connected with Pruitt for a seven-yard touchdown to cap the opening possession of the third quarter and give Fairfield a 28-8 lead. The Mules then went on to outscored the Lions 30-0 in the fourth to blow it completely open.

Fairfield improves to 4-0 and will visit Vienna/Goreville Saturday. Edwards County falls to 2-2. The Lions will host Eldorado Friday.
