MARION — After getting rained out Tuesday, Mt. Vernon and Carbondale moved their South 7 match up to the turf at spacious Rent One Park. The Rams scored four in the seventh for a 6-3 conference win.

The Rams scored single runs in the first and second jump out to a quick 2-0 lead.

After the Terriers picked up their first two hits of the day in the fourth, Corey Crombar’s sacrifice fly cut Mt. Vernon’s lead to 2-1.

It remained that way until the sixth. Carbondale tied the game on a wild pitch, then took its first lead of the game on Riley Dyer’s RBI single that scored Jackson Connelley.

Down to their final at bat, the Rams rallied. Pinch runner Kaden McGee scored on a slow bouncer to third to tie the game 3-3. Luke Willis followed with a hot shot off the third baseman to score Carson Prost with the go ahead run. Kanen Dilday and Colin McClure added a pair of run-scoring singles for insurance.

With the win, the Rams improve to 3-0 in conference play, while the Terriers fall to 0-3. The two teams will meet again Friday in Mt. Vernon.
