CARLYLE — Christopher senior Kye Garver admitted his team didn’t catch many fish in the opening round of the Bass Fishing State Tournament at Carlyle Lake, but he and teammate Dylan Holden certainly caught the right ones.

The Bearcats were one of eight teams in the 77 team field to bring in the five fish limit. Their fish weighed in at 12 pounds-13 ounces, the only double digit weight of the day. Garver reeled in the day’s biggest bass, weighing in at 5 pounds-1 ounce.

Murphysboro’s freshmen duo of Tucker Horstman and Gage Boucher are in second place after day one. The Red Devils caught four fish that weighed in at 9 pounds-5 ounces.

Gallatin County is the only other team from the region in the top 15. Gunner Wilson and Jake Colbert are 12th after weighing in four fish for 5 pounds-11 ounces.

The teams will be back on the water at 7:00 Saturday morning, with the final weigh in to crown a state champion set for 3:00.
