Region’s football standouts receive postseason honors

The Illinois High School Football Coaches Association has released its All-State teams with a dozen players from the region earning first team honors, and 11 more named honorable mention.

The region’s 2A first team selections are Austin Brown (Johnston City DB/QB), Cole Malawy (Nashville QB), and Issac Turner (Nashville WR).

The region’s 3A first team selections are Landon Zurliene (Fairfield QB), Beau Stipp (Mt. Carmel WR/DB), and Nolan Foppe (Mater Dei RB/LB).

The region’s 4A first team selections are Keegan Glover (Benton QB), Trevor Stewart (Carterville OL/DL), Gavin Kuba (Murphysboro DB), Shane Becker (Breese Central WR/P), and Londyn Little (Columbia WR/DB).

The region’s lone 5A first team selection is Hunter Simmons (Marion QB).

Here are the honorable mention selection. In 2A, the list includes Garrett Gunter (SVW LB), Bryce Amann (Red Bud DL/OL), and Josh Serrano (Wesclin TE/DL). In 3A, the list includes Cameron Gardner (Fairfield LB/TE), Zeke Hadra (Mt. Carmel RB), Mitchell Haake (Mater Dei WR/DB), and Jayce Napovanice (Mater Dei RB). In 4A, the list includes Ayden Newcomb (Benton WR/DB), Eli Downen (Carterville QB), Keyton Mitchell (Salem RB/LB), and Jacob Carmack (Freeburg DL/TE).

The Southern Illinois Coaches Association released its All-South selections. A total of 57 earned All-South honors with Nashville leading the way with seven selections. Benton was next with six. Fairfield and Carterville had five each, with Marion having four.
