CHARLESTON — This year’s State Track and Field Championships were nearly a month later than usual, a different format than usual, and the 2A boys meet even had to be delayed due to heat. That still beats the alternative after missing out on the entire season last year due to the pandemic.

Friday’s field events went on as scheduled, but the running events were moved to the evening. It was a great day for area competitors. While there were no state champions, 24 individuals and a relay medaled, including nine top 3 finishes.

Marion junior Bryson Wilson collected three medals–in the long jump, 4×100 relay, and the 400M. Carbondale’s Jackson Grant, Marion’s Kane Carter, Mt. Vernon’s Alec Sledge and Carterville’s Townsend Barton all win two medals.
