MARION — Tournament host Marion won the Colt World Series, beating Brownsville, Texas 7-1 in the championship game Tuesday night at Rent One Park.

While so often the focus in pitching is on velocity and strikeouts, Marion starter Charlie Hunter from Salem tossed a complete game, two-hit gem with no strikeouts, and he needed only 70 pitches to do it.

Marion’s offense banged out 13 hits, with six different players driving in runs. Trey Cole led the way with three hits and an RBI. Owen Cornett, Jakob Koehn, and Anthony Buonaura all had two hits apiece, with Cornett driving in two runs while Koehn and Buonaura drove in a run each.

Marion took a 1-0 lead in the second. After three singles loaded the bases, Cruz Harlan drew a bases loaded walk to force Koehn in with the game’s first run.

The hosts then took control with a four-run fourth, capped by Cornett’s two-out, two-run double.

Brownsville ended Hunter’s shutout bid with a run in the sixth, but Marion came back with two insurance tallies on run scoring hits from Koehn and Cole.

Hunter then finished things off in the seventh to clinch the championship.

Marion’s Parker Price from Eldorado was named the tournament’s top hitter after batting .615. Price did not play in the championship game after having knee surgery earlier in the day.
