Mules roll to 36th straight BDC win

ELDORADO — The Fairfield Mules scored three touchdowns in a 36-second span over the second and third quarters on the way to a 52-8 season-opening win at Eldorado Friday night.

It was the 36th Black Diamond Conference win in a row for the Mules.

Leading 22-0, Fairfield’s Eric Rodgers and Camden Robbins teamed up for a 42-yard touchdown pass on the final play of the half. Rodgers hit Luke Duckworth for the two-point conversion and a 30-0 lead.

Fairfield sophomore Jay Mooring then returned the opening kickoff of the second half 71 yards for a touchdown. After the Mules Konnor Dagg recovered an Eagles’ fumble, Rodgers and Robbins connected for a second TD pass. This one covered 26 yards and triggered the running clock.

Mooring later scored on a 48-yard run. Fairfield had 11 different ball carriers rush for a combined 382 yards, with Dagg leading the way with 103 yards. In his first start at quarterback, Rodgers threw three touchdown passes and ran in a fourth score.

Eldorado was led by Dylan Henshaw who had 19 carries for 100 yards and scored the Eagles lone touchdown.

Fairfield (1-0) will host Sesser-Valier/Waltonville next Friday, while Eldorado (0-1) will be at Johnston City on WEBQ 102.3 and the Section618 app.
