CENTRALIA — After opening the season with a pair of road wins, the Centralia Orphans faced quite a test in their home opener, as state-ranked Mascoutah came to town. The 6th ranked Indians played spoiler, handing the Orphans their first loss of the season, 42-7.
Mascoutah quarterback Chase Hanson had a huge night accounting for all six Indians’ touchdowns–four rushing TDs, a passing TD, and an interception return for score.
The Indians rolled up 349 yards of offense while holding the Orphans to just 141 yards.
For the second week in a row, the Orphans’ player of the game was senior Davin Tabor. Tabor had a pair of interceptions to go along with 4 catches for 54 yds. Centralia’s lone score came on a 9-yard run from running back Amir Johnson.
Mascoutah improves to 3-0, while the Orphans fall to 2-1. Centralia will host Carbondale next Friday night in the South 7 opener for both teams.
