Nashville cruises past Carterville in Mississippi showdown

CARTERVILLE — The Nashville Hornettes struck the first blow in what figures to be quite the battle for SIRR Mississippi volleyball supremacy this season, winning at Carterville 25-14, 25-19. The match pitted the top two teams in our Volleyball Coaches’ Poll. SIRR Mississippi teams currently hold down four of the top eight spots in the poll.

The Hornettes improve to 17-1 (2-0), while the Lady Lions fall to 16-2 (1-1). Nashville will host eighth ranked Pinckneyville Thursday before traveling to sixth ranked Du Quoin next Tuesday.

The Lady Lions fall to 16-2 (1-1). Carterville’s next conference match will be Monday at Anna-Jonesboro.

These two teams will meet again in Nashville October 7.
