Orphans’ season comes to a close with loss at Collinsville

COLLINSVILLE — Facing a likely must-win to get into the playoffs scenario in the final week of the regular season, the Centralia Orphans saw their football season come to an end Friday night after a 59-21 loss at 8-1 Collinsville.

After an opening drive touchdown by the Kahoks, Orphans’ sophomore running back Elijah Johnson ran 68 yards for a score, and after the extra point, Centralia led early 7-6.

Later in the first quarter, Orphans’ quarterback Carson Green connected on a 54-yard touchdown pass to Cam Newcomb. Centralia led 14-6 after one quarter.

Collinsville answered with two touchdowns early in the second to retake the lead at 19-14, but the Orphans struck again. This time it was a 55-yard TD pass from Green to Darlye Jones, and Centralia led 21-19 with 7:35 remaining in the first half.

It was all Kahoks after that as junior running back Jerry Richardson led the way with 168 rushing yards and a couple of touchdowns. Junior quarterback Kolby Anderson threw for 179 yards and scores, including three to senior wide receiver Travion Swygeart.

Collinsville led 32-21 at the half and then outscored Centralia 27-0 in the second half for the final margin of victory.

The Orphans’ season ends at 4-5.
