Benton and Hamilton County remain unbeaten at Goreville

GOREVILLE — The Benton Rangers and Hamilton County Foxes both improved to 3-0 at the Goreville Invitational with wins Thursday night, setting up a showdown Friday night.

The Foxes and host Blackcats both came into Thursday night’s matchup 2-0 in the tourney, but Hamilton County held on to win 56-54 with Wyatt Hamson’s blocked shot in the final seconds securing the win. Brady Thrane led the Foxes with 17. Goreville’s Dylan Compton led all scorers with 19.

Benton blasted Anna-Jonesboro 71-40. The Rangers broke open a close game early against the Wildcats with an 18-0 run that spanned the end of the first and start of the second quarters. Benton led 37-13 at the half and cruised to the win. The Rangers’ Luke Melvin led all scorers with 16. Dylan Harvel led A-J with 15.

In the first game, Hardin County held on to edge Johnston City 52-49. Jake Vaughn led the Cougars with a game high 19. Logan Hunter led the Indians with 17.

Through three nights, Benton and Hamilton County are 3-0, Goreville is 2-1, Hardin County is 1-2, Anna-Jonesboro and Johnston City are 0-3.

Here’s the remaining schedule. On Friday, it will be Johnston City vs Goreville at 5:30, Hardin Co. vs Anna-Jonesboro at 7:00, and Benton vs Hamilton County at 8:30.

Saturday’s final session starts at 4:00 with Anna-Jonesboro vs Johnston City, at 5:30 Hamilton County will face Hardin County, and then at 7:00 Benton and Goreville will wrap up the tournament.
