Centralia shuts down rival Mt. Vernon

CENTRALIA — The Centralia Orphans improved to 8-0 on the season, 2-0 in the South 7, with a 52-38 win over the Mt. Vernon Rams (4-3, 1-2) Friday night, their 14th win in the last 16 meetings between the two schools.

Centralia led 17-12 after one quarter, but Mt. Vernon closed within two points by halftime, as the Orphans took a 25-23 lead to the locker room. Centralia extended the lead to 36-28 after three and pulled away in the fourth.

Orphans senior Davin Tabor led all scorers with 25 points. NJ Benson led the Rams with 19.

Centralia is back in action Saturday against Effingham at the Nokomis Shootout. Mt. Vernon will host Lockport Saturday night at 7:30, in a varsity only contest. The two teams will meet again in conference play January 28th at Mt. Vernon.
